Klain is a Harvard man with quite the colorful career history. Beginning in the “belly of the beast” at Georgetown University in D.C., he continued to Harvard Law. After graduating, he went to work on Capitol Hill for Congress and the Supreme Court.
By the 90's, Klain had partnered up with the Clinton-Gore campaign team. He later became Vice President Al Gore's Chief of Staff, working from the mid to late 90's. He moved on to the private sector in the early 2000's as a lobbyist. He also served as a political consultant for John Kerry's campaign team.
Klain returned as Chief of Staff to then-Vice President Biden in the early 2010's. He was the mastermind behind the infamous "Recovery Summer" of 2010. His tenure included the Solyndra debacle, where the solar panel company went bankrupt after receiving government funding from the Obama administration, a stain on his career. A few years later, President Obama appointed him as White House Ebola Czar after the breakout of Ebola virus in the United States.
Before Biden's ascent to the White House, Klain worked as a senior advisor to his presidential campaign. Klain would serve as White House chief of staff. In late 2022, it was determined that he violated the Hatch Act.
In early 2023, Klain stepped down as chief of staff in the weeks after Biden's State of the Union address. As of late last 2023, he joined AirBnB's team as Chief Legal Officer.
