Your Late Afternoon Mission: April 15th, 2025

Editor’s note: As if you did not know, today is the dreaded Tax Day in the United States. You have up until 11:59pm local time zone to have your forms submitted to the I.R.S. Treat yourself to some ‘Brain Candy’ when you’re done.
Why? This dreaded task lies in the Constitution: Sixteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and Article I, Section 8.
Trivia: Tax Day is typically April 15 because it was set by Congress in 1955. The Internal Revenue Code formalized this date, as it falls roughly four months into the year, giving the IRS time to handle filings before the next fiscal cycle. It was also because of bureaucratic convenience (of course). If April 15 falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline often shifts to the next business day. Congress has the power to adjust it, as seen during extensions for events like COVID-19 when it was moved to July 15, 2020.
