Editor’s Note: On this date in 1964 Martin Luther King received the Peace Prize for his nonviolent campaign against racism. (It was awarded to him on October 14, 1964). At 35 years old, he was the youngest person to receive the ward.
In his acceptance speech, He emphasized the importance of nonviolent resistance, stating that “this Nobel Prize was won by a movement of great people, whose discipline, wise restraint, and majestic courage has led them down a nonviolent course in seeking to establish a reign of justice and a rule of love across this nation.”
